Gruk, sometimes referred to as Green Gruk, was a male Gamorrean pirate who functioned as the chieftain of a small group of other Gamorrean individuals. In the year 0 ABY, Gruk found himself on the space installation called StarForge Station when the Alliance to Restore the Republic's privateering frigate, the Far Orbit, arrived seeking additional personnel. Gruk enlisted on the ship, motivated primarily by his enjoyment of combat.
Gruk, who was also known as Green Gruk, was a male Gamorrean pirate who acted as the commander of a small band of fellow Gamorrean fighters. In 0 ABY, which took place during the Galactic Civil War between the Galactic Empire and the Alliance to Restore the Republic, he was present on the space station StarForge Station, situated within the Mid Rim's StarForge Nebula. During that year, the Alliance privateering EF76 Nebulon-B escort frigate Far Orbit made a visit to the station in search of new crew members, as some of the Far Orbit's former crew had just mutinied to escape Imperial control and become privateers. Gruk signed on for a position aboard the frigate, his motivation being his love of fighting rather than any particular interest in the privateers' activities.
Even though Gruk secured a position on the ship, he refused to follow orders unless they originated from someone who had defeated him in a physical confrontation. Should an individual triumph over Gruk in battle, the Gamorrean and his group would pledge their allegiance to that person. At one instance during Gruk's time serving on the Far Orbit, a powerful Human engaged the Gamorrean in combat, ultimately suffering a broken back. As a form of retaliation, a contingent of Human crew members launched attacks on specific alien crew members using clubs, leading to isolated beatings targeting both Humans and non-Humans.
Standing at a height of 1.5 meters, Gruk was a sizable, malodorous, and wart-covered green Gamorrean who had a strong inclination for fighting. Leading a group of individuals from his species, he would not accept commands from anyone who had not bested him in a demonstration of physical prowess. Gruk's motivation for joining the privateers was not a concern for retaliating against the Empire, but rather his desire for combat. Being a Gamorrean, he consumed almost anything, but was known for his untidy eating habits.
Gruk made his initial appearance in the adventure scenario titled Preparing for War, which was released in 1998's The Far Orbit Project, authored by Timothy S. O'Brien. This book served as a supplement to West End Games' Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game and functioned as a sequel of sorts to the preceding publication, Pirates & Privateers, continuing the theme of the previous book by following the Far Orbit's adventures. Gruk was presented as a sample character who had the potential to join the ship's crew while at StarForge Station, and whether he secures a position on the ship is dependent on the players' actions. However, given that Gruk refuses to obey any leader unless that person has personally defeated him, this article presumes that a player character emerged victorious against Gruk. The size of the Gamorrean's group can be determined by rolling a die during gameplay.
