Grayfeather Squadron was a unit of the Commenorian defense force that operated BTL-S8 K-wing assault starfighters. This squadron consisted of a minimum of five of these formidable heavy fighters. The squadron's commander was Caregg Oldathan, who led them during the battle of Commenor. As the battle raged, sections of the Galactic Alliance Third Fleet surreptitiously launched a cloaked asteroid toward Commenor. Oldathan and Danen, upon investigating, uncovered the truth of the incoming threat. Understanding that they were powerless to stop the asteroid from impacting their planet, they instead chased after the ships responsible for the heinous act, driven by a desire for retribution and to ensure this tactic would not be repeated.
