Gibbela

Gibbela, a planet situated in the Atrivis sector of the Outer Rim Territories, existed in a remote location. This world was the homeworld of the Dazouri species, beings capable of shapeshifting. The Dazouri inhabitants of Gibbela primarily practiced simple farming.

During the Galactic Empire's reign, an Imperial detachment was dispatched to Gibbela. Their mission was to scout the planet in anticipation of its planned colonization. Upon landing at the farm belonging to one of the local Dazouri, the officer in command declared the planet as property of the Empire and demanded the farmer's compliance. The Dazouri, however, responded by transforming into a formidable killer, eliminating the Imperial force and subsequently adapting their abandoned equipment for agricultural use.

Description

Gibbela was a terrestrial planet within the Gibbela system, which itself was located in the Atrivis sector of the New Territories region of the Outer Rim Territories. Its position, far removed from even the lesser-used hyperlanes, made it a very isolated world.

History

Sometime during the Galactic Empire's reign, the Empire planned to colonize Gibbela. A small Imperial scout unit, transported by a Sentinel-class landing craft and consisting of an Imperial officer and a stormtrooper guard, was sent to the planet, anticipating minimal resistance. An initial aerial survey revealed several seemingly harmless farmers of the native Dazouri species.

The Imperial starship touched down at the farm belonging to one of the local inhabitants. Upon exiting the vessel, the Imperial officer addressed the farmer, declaring Gibbela as Imperial territory in the name of the Galactic Emperor and demanding the Dazouri's submission. Unexpectedly, the farmer then underwent the characteristic transformation of the Dazouri, becoming a savage killer who annihilated the outmatched Imperial force. Following this, the Dazouri repurposed the Imperials' weapons, armor, and even their landing craft for use as farming implements. Between 4 ABY and 12 ABY, Gibbela was located within the territory controlled by the Pentastar Alignment.

Inhabitants

Gibbela, a primitive planet focused on agriculture, served as the homeworld for the Dazouri, a sentient species of shapeshifters. While they usually appeared as small, defenseless Humanoids, when provoked, the Dazouri would transform into three-meter-tall, murderous, and frenzied predators. Due to their ferocious nature, spacers generally avoided visiting Gibbela. During the Galactic Empire's rule, Gibbela was populated by several Dazouri farmers, one of whom eliminated an Imperial scouting party.

Locations

One Dazouri cultivated a farm on Gibbela, consisting of a large tent and various circles of cultivated plants. Each circle contained a tripod-supported fruit tree encircled by a ring of crop plants. The farm also featured at least one scarecrow. After the farmer successfully defended against an Imperial scouting party, the Imperial's starship was repurposed as an additional structure on the farm.

Behind the scenes

Gibbela was first seen in "The Value of Proper Intelligence to Any Successful Military Campaign is Not to Be Underestimated," a comic story penned by Ken Lizzl, with illustrations by Lucas Marangon, and published in the nineteenth edition of the Star Wars Tales comic series on May 14, 2004. In terms of the Star Wars Legends continuity, Lucasfilm considered plausible narratives within Star Wars Tales 120 as S-canon, or "secondary" canon, by default. This status would be elevated to C-canon, or "continuity" canon, if the subject matter was referenced in a source outside of the Tales series.

The events depicted in the Star Wars Tales 19 comic were later mentioned in an entry for Gibbela in the 2008 publication, The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia. The 2009 reference book, The Essential Atlas, located the Gibbela system, and therefore the planet, within grid square L-5.
