Gaan

Gaan, a male Human, served as the leader of a small community of outcasts situated on the Outer Rim planet of Ragmar V during the Clone Wars' final year. Throughout this conflict, he and his group engaged in combat against the Galactic Republic's forces.

In the year 19 BBY, Joc Sah, a Jedi Padawan, along with his squad of clone troopers, journeyed to the planet with the intention of capturing Gaan's village. There, they encountered Gaan and the other exiled individuals. However, Sah's clone sergeant, subsequently received Order 66 from Supreme Chancellor Palpatine, designating the Jedi Knights as enemies of the Republic, and subsequently attacked Sah. Gaan and Sah joined forces and eliminated the Padawan's former comrades. As Sah attempted to get in contact with his Jedi Master, Gaan revealed that he had been betrayed, and extended an offer for him to join his group. Sah accepted, and together, they led the outcasts against the contingent of clones dispatched to ensure Sah's demise.

Biography

Born in the concluding decades of the Galactic Republic, Gaan was a male Human. He rose to prominence as the leader of a band of exiles on the Outer Rim world of Ragmar V during the Clone Wars. In 19 BBY, the Republic aimed to establish a base on Ragmar V, viewing it as a crucial staging planet for their planned assault on a Separatist stronghold. When a Republic Low Altitude Assault Transport/infantry gunship touched down on a cliff close to Gaan's settlement, he instructed two of his followers to utilize a rocket launcher to obliterate the ship. Following the gunship's destruction, Gaan instructed his men to prepare for the coming battle with the approaching Republic forces, and he commanded his group to leave the Jedi for him to eliminate.

Joc Sah and Gaan attacking clone troopers

Within the settlement, Gaan encountered Joc Sah, a Padawan Jedi, along with his squad of clone troopers, and informed the Jedi that the Republic was not welcome on the planet. As Gaan prepared to engage Sah's forces, Remy, a Sergeant among the clones, received a command instructing him to execute Order 66, which designated the Jedi as traitors to the Republic who were to be immediately terminated. The clone sergeant and the troopers commenced firing upon Sah, much to Gaan's astonishment. The leader proclaimed that the Jedi was his to kill and shot one of the clones, prompting the others to return fire at him. Gaan sought refuge in the same building as Sah, as his group launched an assault on the clones. After Sah attempted to contact Sev, his Jedi Master, Gaan presented him with the choice of either fighting alongside him and his people, or remaining in the building and facing certain death. Sah agreed to temporarily ally with Gaan, and together, they eliminated Sah's former clone allies.

When Sah made a final attempt to contact his Jedi Master, Gaan observed that the Padawan had been betrayed and now found himself in the same position as Gaan and his group, as an outcast with a shared adversary. The Padawan accepted a place in Gaan's group and cautioned him that the Republic would dispatch overwhelming numbers of troops to confront them. Shortly thereafter, Gaan and Sah led their fellow outcasts against the troopers from Sev's Venator-class Star Destroyer, who had been dispatched to ensure Sah's elimination. Both men survived and orchestrated a series of hit-and-run attacks against the clones.

Personality and traits

Gaan harbored no sympathy for the Republic and its forces, and he sought to engage their troops in retaliation for bringing the war to his and his group's homeworld. Gaan was also eager to fight Joc Sah, instructing his men during the battle to leave the Jedi to him. He even went as far as to shoot one of the clone troopers when they attacked the Jedi in accordance with Order 66. After the clones attacked Sah, Gaan was willing to allow the Jedi to temporarily ally with him, and when they defeated the clones together, Gaan recognized that Sah had been betrayed, offering his friendship to the Jedi.

Gaan possessed light skin, brown hair, and a beard. While his right eye was green, his left eye was concealed by a red cybernetic implant.

Equipment

Gaan sported a green jacket and a brown holster. He wore a yellow earring in his right ear. Gaan possessed a comlink and a blaster pistol.

Behind the scenes

Gaan made his debut appearance in the short story The Order of Outcasts, which was one of four stories compiled in the fifth volume of the Star Wars: Clone Wars Adventures trade paperbacks released on April 26, 2006. Matt Jacobs created the character, and Matthew and Shawn Fillbach provided the artwork. However, the character's name was not revealed until he received an entry in The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia. Joc Sah's entry in The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia indicates that Gaan, the Padawan, and the other criminals fled into the desert after fleeing Remy and his troops. This contradicts the information given in The Order of Outcasts, which depicts the characters staying in the village after defeating Remy's clones, and then preparing for the clone detachment sent to eliminate Sah.
