Saleucami, with a pronunciation of /sʌ'lukəˌmaɪ/, existed as a dim and parched world situated within the Suolriep sector of the Outer Rim Territories. Functioning as a significant economic hub and trading center in the Outer Rim, Saleucami wielded considerable political influence during the Great Galactic War. Furthermore, it served as a strategically important planet within the Confederacy of Independent Systems throughout the Clone Wars. Under the dominion of the Techno Union during the Separatist Crisis, the Grand Army of the Republic liberated this world prior to the emergence of the Galactic Empire, thus sparing it from the punitive measures inflicted upon other former Separatist planets. Nestled between Kegan and Handooine along the Talcene Transit, the planet received supplies from cargo vessels traveling along the Perlemian Trade Route en route to the Kuthic Worlds.

Saleucami presented a landscape characterized by dim lighting, aridity, and scattered oases displaying plant life. The name Saleucami, translating to "oasis" in the Wroonian language, aptly described the only habitable planet within a system abundant with lifeless celestial bodies and meteoroids. These meteoroids frequently intersected the planet's orbit, resulting in bombardments that sculpted vast craters and calderas across its surface. Over time, geothermal activity and subterranean water sources surfaced within these craters, giving rise to circular seas and transforming certain calderas into vibrant ecosystems on the planet's terrain. Displaying a range of environments from deserts to wetlands, the topography of Saleucami mirrored the diversity of its inhabitants. Although Saleucami lacked indigenous sentient species, its generally favorable climate, excluding the intensely hot equatorial zones, attracted numerous settlers seeking their own haven. Among the most prominent species were the Wroonian, Weequay, Gran, and Twi'lek. These colonists established small communities within the mineral-rich and fertile craters of the world. They chose Taleucema as the primary spaceport and capital city, strategically located due to its network of subterranean magma streams and geothermal vents. By harnessing the inherent energy of these features, the city's residents utilized the vents to power the city and provide warmth during the frigid desert nights. The diverse ecosystems that flourished within these craters were a source of wonder for both Saleucamians and visitors. Expansive woodlands were interspersed with deserts and swamps, while dense jungles teeming with predators emerged in other areas.
The cultural landscape of Saleucami primarily evolved from the Wroonian heritage, as they were the initial settlers on the planet. With foundations in freedom of expression, the pursuit of happiness, and a spirit of exploration, the world flourished in the Outer Rim, drawing a diverse array of species to its crater-based cities. As more cultures arrived, Saleucami's inclusive approach fostered and encouraged the complete cultural integration of varying perspectives. The Gran and Twi'lek settlers significantly influenced the planet, leaving the most substantial mark on Saleucami's cultural practices. In contrast, the more isolated Weequays tended to remain within their own distinct neighborhoods and did not exert as much cultural influence as other species.
Due to the dramatic temperature spikes during the summer months, most inhabitants conducted their affairs at night, choosing to stay indoors during the day. This evening period, known as Eventide, evolved into a holiday for the original Wroonian settlers. The Pantorans, reversing their schedules for the three months of summer, served midday meals at midnight and were highly active during the evenings.
Saleucami's colonization by the Wroonian occurred initially in 6100 BBY, with settlements established within the fertile calderas situated outside the equatorial regions. As word of the original colonists' successes spread, members of other species flocked to the world to establish their own thriving enclaves. With time, the Saleucamians developed defense systems that prevented meteor impacts by disintegrating incoming space debris before it entered the atmosphere. Having successfully developed an economic center in the Outer Rim, Saleucami's government possessed considerable political sway within the Galactic Republic.

During the Cold War, Saleucami became a target of the xenophobic and expansionist faction known as the Advozse Hegemony. The Advozsec planned to utilize the Hammer Station battle station to bombard the planet, but the station was eventually destroyed during a battle in Saleucami's space.
During the Great Galactic War, the planet was frequently recognized as the most prosperous trading hub in the Outer Rim. Following repeated Republic defeats, including a devastating orbital battle, the planet's government began to question the Republic's capacity to defend its allies. Consequently, Saleucami became a founding member of the Rift Alliance, with the forthright Senator Alauni serving as its representative. The actions of the third Jedi Barsen'thor persuaded the Rift Alliance worlds, including Saleucami, to maintain their alliance with the Republic, with Alauni among the three potential candidates to represent the alliance in the Galactic Senate.
As a thriving world, Saleucami became a destination for various individuals seeking seclusion and anonymity. Around 67 BBY, a Force-sensitive Iktotchi female garnered a cult following on Saleucami. Gifted with an innate ability for prophecy, the Iktotchi predicted the downfall of the Galactic Republic and the Jedi Order, as well as the Clone Wars and the rise of the Empire. Acting on information stolen from Darth Venamis, the Muun Sith Darth Plagueis journeyed to Saleucami and listened to the prophet. Concerned that the prophet might prematurely reveal his plans, Plagueis used Force lightning to electrocute and kill her.

Despite its efforts to remain a peaceful oasis, Saleucami fell under the direct control of the Techno Union three years before the Battle of Naboo. With the onset of the Clone Wars, its affiliation with the Techno Union placed it firmly under the control of the Confederacy of Independent Systems. Consequently, Supreme Chancellor Palpatine designated the planet as part of a "Triad of Evil," alongside Felucia and Mygeeto. Jedi Knights Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker, and Adi Gallia once spearheaded a mission to rescue Eeth Koth from General Grievous, who was in orbit around Saleucami at the time. Following the destruction of their ship, the Jedi searched for Grievous in a forested area of the planet. This led to a minor skirmish during which Clone Captain CT-7567, known as "Rex," sustained injuries. While recovering, Rex also discovered a clone deserter living as a farmer with his adopted family. Rex then aided the deserter and his family with an abandoned pod containing droid commandos.
Despite the population's desire to remain neutral, the Confederacy utilized the planet as a staging ground during the Outer Rim Sieges. Unbeknownst to the Saleucamian government, Count Dooku's Dark Acolytes had begun to transform several of the world's underground caverns into cloning facilities for their own clone army—Morgukai clones trained by Anzat assassins. Despite their efforts to maintain secrecy, this plot was uncovered by Jedi Master Tholme and Aayla Secura. As a result, the Jedi High Council dispatched Jedi Generals Oppo Rancisis and his second-in-command Quinlan Vos along with a task force to dismantle the cloning operations on Saleucami. This action initiated a massive five month-long siege between the Republic and Separatist forces on the planet. Initially, the Republic seized Saleucami's main city and then advanced inward.

During the conflict, Jedi Master Rancisis was murdered by his former comrade, Sora Bulq, after being distracted by Anzat assassins. Sora Bulq and Tol Skorr were subsequently killed by Quinlan Vos, and Bok was slain by Aayla Secura. The Republic forces also flooded Saleucami's magma tunnels to eliminate the Separatist Morgukai clones. Despite significant casualties on both sides, Saleucami's infrastructure remained largely intact, as most of the combat occurred in the sparsely populated desert regions. Maintaining a robust economy after the Republic established an interim government to oversee post-battle cleanup and recovery, the Saleucamians welcomed the Grand Army's presence and hailed them as liberators. Jedi Master Stass Allie and Commander Neyo led the Republic's cleanup efforts. While patrolling the battlefield for remaining Confederate forces in a unit of BARC troopers, Neyo received Order 66 over a secure comm channel. Neyo and his lieutenant opened fire on Allie's 74-Z speeder bike, destroying the vehicle and instantly killing the Jedi Master.

As the Republic transitioned into the Galactic Empire, Saleucami's position in the galaxy remained consistent. An Imperial Governor was stationed in the region to ensure the planet's allegiance to Coruscant; however, the governor eventually became a paid asset of the Zann Consortium. During the Galactic Civil War, Jabba Desilijic Tiure maintained holdings and a clandestine communications outpost on Saleucami, which were captured and subsequently forcibly transferred to Tyber Zann shortly after the Battle of Yavin. Around the same period, the space surrounding the planet was also the site of a skirmish between the Rebel forces of Renegade Squadron, commanded by Commander Gial Ackbar, and Imperial troops, led by the bounty hunter Boba Fett, which resulted in the capture of the majority of the Rebels involved in the mission.
During the Yuuzhan Vong War, Saleucami was conquered by the invaders.
The pronunciation remains somewhat contested, contingent upon one's interpretation of canon. In Revenge of the Sith, Obi-Wan Kenobi articulates it as /sʌ'lukəˌmaɪ/, whereas in Forces of Corruption the characters pronounce it as /ˈsæl.jʊˌkɑ.mi/. Col Serra pronounces it /ˈseɪ.liˌuːkɑ.mi/ in Star Wars Battlefront: Renegade Squadron. This discrepancy could be attributed to Ewan McGregor's Scottish accent. The characters in The Clone Wars also adopt the /sʌ'lukəˌmaɪ/ pronunciation, suggesting its likelihood as the accurate rendition. However, in Star Wars The Old Republic, Master Satele Shan pronounces it as /ˌsuːl.jʊ.kɑˈmiː/.

In The Essential Atlas, Saleucami is depicted with a light purple surface. This is likely an error, as all other sources portray Saleucami as a brownish-green planet.
During the pre-production phase of Revenge of the Sith, Saleucami was designated as a "bridge planet," characterized by arcing parabolic bridges with inverted skylines extending from the curving structures. This planet was intended to be a major stronghold of the Techno Union, with a Clone Wars montage showcasing the engagement of the Confederacy founders on their respective homeworlds.
The bridge world concept evolved and was ultimately realized as Cato Neimoidia in the finished film. Saleucami was subsequently reassigned to the planet where Stass Allie met her demise.
The 2009 sourcebook The Essential Atlas identifies Saleucami as a Wroonian colony, while the 2015 sourcebook Mask of the Pirate Queen describes it as a Pantoran colony. This is presumed to be an error, given the similar characteristics of the two species.
