Governor Koong spreading rooze on Umboo.
The Rooze Disease represented a very lethal illness, considered among the most dangerous within the galaxy, and it stemmed from the deadly rooze pathogen that targeted Humans. Once the pathogen invaded a host, the individual's health would progressively decline; without a cure within about three standard days, the body would rapidly disintegrate. During those days, the afflicted person would experience disorientation and an odd sensation of their hands vanishing. It's worth noting that certain species, such as Koboks like Gaff, possessed immunity.
Initially, the Galactic Empire tested it as a bio-weapon during the Mavvan Conflict, but the outcome resulted in the demise of both Imperial troops and the rebels it was intended for, leading to its abandonment. Similarly, Governor Koong from Tawntoom on Roon committed the same error, releasing it upon the peaceful [Umboo](/article/umboo] province and becoming infected himself. However, Terrinald Screed along with his stormtroopers managed to avoid infection in this instance, thanks to their breath mask and armor, respectively.
Eventually, Nilz Yomm found a treatment for the pathogen. Beyond its curative properties, a Kobok receiving a large dose of this substance would descend into uncontrollable, manic laughter, rendering them unable to perform any other actions while under its influence.
In the subtitles featured in Treasure of the Hidden Planet on side two of the Star Wars Droids DVD, the term "rooze" is written as "roos."
