Excargans were a sentient species of Near-Human beings who originated from the world of Excarga. A unique aspect of their biology was that they lacked a defined gender in their early years; this changed when they reached approximately thirteen years of age, at which point their bodies would undergo a transformation to determine their sex. A significant portion of the population on their planet was employed by companies involved in the processing of ore. The Separatists launched an attack against them during the period of the Clone Wars, prompting the Republic to intervene. Later, during the Galactic Civil War, they engaged in trade with the Rebel Alliance, providing them with essential materials.
Garr, who had lost both his mother and father in a Separatist attack (they were presumed dead), became friends with Boba Fett, another orphan, in 22 BBY. This occurred after Boba's rescue during the Conquest of Raxus Prime.
