Duunir, a planet, existed within the Duunir system. This system was situated in the Kibilini sector of the Outer Rim Territories'. By the time that the Galactic Civil War occurred, the Black Bha'lir, an organization of interstellar smuggler and pirate, had built a large installation on Duunir. This installation was the biggest of a few secluded sanctuaries for the creature also named Black Bha'lir. These forest predator creatures came from the world called Iyred and became the criminal group's symbol. As a result, the Black Bha'lir group established the Duunir refuge as a charitable endeavor. At Duunir and other comparable locations, small populations of Black Bha'lir were bred, even though they were officially considered extinct due to environmental damage on Iyred.
The 1997 sourcebook The Black Sands of Socorro, written by Patricia A. Jackson for West End Games' Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game, included information about Duunir. In the 2009 reference book The Essential Atlas, the Duunir system, and thus the planet itself, was located in grid square Q-17.
