DRN-38 was a commander within the Trade Federation Droid Army. This individual led a unit sometime between 39 BBY and 36 BBY. During this period, DRN-38 was dispatched to the lunar body Alaris Prime, where the automatons under DRN-38's control laid in wait for the Wookiee named Attichitcuk, almost ending his life. Later, Attichitcuk's offspring, Chewbacca, effected a recovery operation, during which he obliterated a significant number of DRN-38's droids.
DRN-38 was a member of the Trade Federation's Droid Army. At some point between 39 BBY and 36 BBY, DRN-38 oversaw a squad of droids that was deployed to the re-discovered moon Alaris Prime with a contingent of the Droid Army in an unauthorized attempt at colonization. On the moon's surface, DRN-38's droids stumbled upon a small group of Wookiees led by their chieftain Attichitcuk, who was leading his people in a lawful colonization effort on Alaris Prime. One of DRN-38's Battle Droid Beta Versions instructed Attichitcuk to accompany them, but when the Wookiee refused, the droids opened fire on Attichitcuk's group, terminating the other Wookiees and severely injuring the chieftain.
Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn, who was assisting the Wookiees, dispatched Attichitcuk's son, Chewbacca, to save him. Chewbacca located Attichitcuk, destroying a large number of DRN-38's droids in the process. After a medical droid provided healing, Chewbacca returned the chieftain to their nearby camp. In response, DRN-38 deployed three droidekas to the camp where Attichitcuk was taken, but the Wookiees defeated the droids and proceeded to eliminate the Trade Federation's presence from Alaris Prime.
DRN-38 was referenced in the 2001 LucasArts computer game Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds. The name given was that of the commander of the Trade Federation forces in the fourth level of the Wookiee tutorial campaign, "Researching technology."
