The now-defunct government of Alderaan was once governed by the Council of Elders. Following the conclusion of the Clone Wars, Alderaanian armaments were stored on the war frigate called Another Chance. This vessel was subsequently dispatched on a journey with no specific destination across the galaxy, awaiting the Council's activation of its recall signal during a crisis. The Council, however, was unable to do so. The initial Death Star's obliteration of Alderaan resulted in the Council's demise, although the beacon endured and would eventually be utilized. At the time Alderaan was destroyed, Orinn Tathis was not on the planet, making him the Council's last living member.
