Corvaj

The corvaj was a predatory creature dwelling in the Wilds, a region characterized by dense jungle and marshy lowlands, notorious for its insect swarms and dangerous beasts. Known for their lethality, corvajs were ambush predators infamous for tearing out their prey's liver. They possessed a distinctive snarl and were capable of killing a fully grown Human.

During the Galactic Civil War, cadet pilots Ranna Gorjaye and Calson were conducting a training patrol flight over an unnamed planet. While flying over the Wilds, Calson flew too close, resulting in both fighters crashing into the wilderness. Aware of the corvaj's presence in the Wilds, Gorjaye attempted to guide them to the safety of a settlement located seventeen kilometers away. Calson, however, disobeyed the orders of a woman. Venturing off alone, he was ambushed and killed by a corvaj. Gorjaye successfully escaped the Wilds.

Behind the scenes

The corvaj's initial mention occurred in the short story Survival Class, featured in The DarkStryder Campaign published by West End Games in 1995.

The planet where the incident transpired remains unidentified in the text. However, Gorjaye's biography indicates that she underwent flight training on both Salliche and Raithal, suggesting the corvaj might be native to either of these planets. Nevertheless, the story lacks direct evidence supporting this. The only named region on the planet is the Wilds. Although Kiffex is known to have a region also called "The Wilds," no source has definitively linked the two locations to date.
