The Carvandir sector was located within the Expansion Region, specifically in its Northern Dependencies and the Outer Expansion Zone sub-region. By 0 ABY, its borders were defined by the Neshei and Sarla sector to spinward, the Deadalis sector in the trailing direction, and the Jalor and Vorc sectors rimward, marking the Expansion Region's edge with the Mid Rim. These boundaries of the sector remained unchanged by 12 ABY, at which time the space it occupied was under the control of the New Republic.
The Carvandir system was a component of the Carvandir sector, situated along the Namadii Corridor hyperlane that connected the Dorin system in the Deadalis sector with the Vaced system in the Jalor sector. Furthermore, another hyperspace route provided a link from the Carvandir system to the Mondress system within the eponymous sector.
The reference book The Essential Guide to Warfare, released in 2012 and written by Jason Fry and Paul R. Urquhart, introduced the Carvandir sector.
