During the era of the Galactic Civil War, a battle took place on the planet known as Vaenrood. This world was situated within the system of the same name, itself a part of the Pakuuni sector in the Outer Rim Territories. A few months prior to the New Republic's successful removal of Moff Kentor Sarne from his position of authority on Kal'Shebbol, Republic military forces clashed with the Galactic Empire on Vaenrood. In this conflict, New Republic ground forces launched an offensive operation against Imperial military forces amidst mountainous landscapes, receiving assistance from X-wing starfighters providing aerial support. In the course of this battle, an X-wing—manned by Darryn Thyte—sustained damage when its wing was struck by Imperial artillery fire. The subsequent crash caused the canopy to buckle and break, resulting in the severing of a significant portion of Thyte's right arm above the elbow joint.
The Battle of Vaenrood received a mention within the short story entitled "The Saga Begins", as well as within the biographical information about Darryn Thyte featured in The DarkStryder Campaign, a publication released by West End Games during the year 1995.
