Vex, whose real name was Aveca Dunn, was a Human female spy operating as a freelancer in the galaxy, during the time of the Empire. She frequently took on assignments from the Bothan Spynet, but she also accepted jobs with Imperial Intelligence. In the year 3 BBY, Rodas Borgin contracted her to abduct Bron Dooku, but her plans were foiled by Jahan Cross, who used to be her romantic partner.
As a freelance operative, Vex often found herself working for both the Bothan Spynet and Imperial Intelligence. She was romantically involved with Commander Jahan Cross, an agent of the Empire.
Vex was employed by Duke Rodas Borgin in 3 BBY with the task of kidnapping the Count Bron Dooku. For her initial attempt, she enlisted the aid of Captain Ramchak, a past lover, and his crew aboard the Bloodskull. Their plan was to attack the Windrunner, allowing Vex to seize the young Count. However, Cross, her former lover, happened to be on the Windrunner. Vex managed to subdue the young Count and transport him, unconscious, to one of Ramchak's starfighters.

Cross pursued her relentlessly. Vex then brought the young Count to the Starhaven, a freighter located at the Carannia Spaceport. Cross confronted her there, disabling the ship. A struggle ensued, but Cross managed to overpower Vex. Following their fight, they shared a kiss. Cross persuaded her to feign a comatose state and await rescue. Subsequently, Vex was taken to the Spike for interrogation. Cross soon orchestrated Vex's rescue. Disguised in a guard's uniform, Vex and Cross attempted to escape. Unfortunately, Captain Candra Tymon, Count Dooku's Security Chief, discovered Vex, but Cross incapacitated her. They successfully fled the Spike by getting Tymon to a medical facility. Vex then managed to leave the planet. Before her departure, Vex revealed to Cross that Duke Borgin was the one who had hired her.
Subsequently, Vex engaged the services of the bounty hunter Boba Fett to finalize the kidnapping of the young Count. This action was actually orchestrated by Jahan Cross as part of his plan to simulate Bron's death, though Fett was under the impression that Borgin was his employer.
The cover art for Agent of the Empire – Hard Targets 3 shows Vex with red hair. However, within the comic itself, she is consistently depicted with brown hair. Furthermore, the cover inaccurately portrays Alessi Quon's skin tone.
