IRD-A starfighter

The IRD-A starfighter, an acronym standing for **Intercept Reconnaissance Defense, represented an improved iteration of the IRD starfighter used by the Corporate Sector's forces.

Characteristics

While the initial IRD model boasted potent engines, dual laser cannons, and the most advanced pilot ejection system available at the time, it lacked a crucial hyperdrive. Consequently, the Authority IRD required transport via larger vessels, such as the Marauder-class corvette or the Victory-class Star Destroyer.

History

The Corporate Sector Authority engineered the Authority IRD fighter to fulfill diverse mission requirements for the Picket Fleet. Early versions of the Authority IRD suffered from poor aerodynamics, resulting in such inadequate performance in atmospheric combat that many pilots refused to engage targets within an atmosphere. This deficiency prompted the development of the Authority IRD-A starfighter, which was specifically deployed during atmospheric engagements. The IRD-A featured a carefully sculpted fuselage that directed airflow through a vector stabilizer, thereby improving both maneuverability and speed. Furthermore, it was armed with concussion missiles, making it a more formidable adversary than its predecessor.

During Han Solo's tenure in the Corporate Sector, Solo and a band of outlaw techs confronted the new Authority IRD-A fighters, successfully defeating them using early model Z-95 Headhunters. However, this triumph was an exception, and subsequent, more favorable outcomes encouraged the Authority to commence a full-scale production run of the IRD-A.

Several IRD-A fighters were present during Jahan Cross's escape from the Stark Compound located on Etti IV. They pursued him as he fled the facility.
