Ashas Ree, a planet covered in [forests](/article/forest], existed within the Outer Rim Territories. The only inhabited location was an outpost, located close to a Jedi temple. This temple was constructed specifically to contain the power emanating from a Sith temple situated below it. During the First Order-Resistance War, Mika Grey, a traveler, journeyed to Ashas Ree in pursuit of a hidden relic within the Sith temple. Her intention was to prevent the First Order from acquiring it. However, she became trapped within the temple. She was eventually discovered and freed two days later by Kazuda Xiono, CB-23, Eila, and Kel, who were members of the Colossus resistance.
Positioned at coordinates R-5 on the Standard Galactic Grid, Ashas Ree was a planet found in the Outer Rim Territories of the galaxy. From space, Ashas Ree appeared green due to its extensive forests. The known fauna included parvinoths, which are a species of bioluminescent insects.
Ashas Ree holds a history steeped in darkness, having once been under the dominion of the Sith. A temple was erected on Ashas Ree by the Sith long before the First Order-Resistance War. A relic, a powerful artifact, was placed at the temple's core. The temple was protected by a series of dangerous traps. In time, the Jedi concealed the Sith temple and constructed their own temple, known as the Temple of the Force, above it to contain its dark power. Eventually, the Jedi abandoned the temple, which then fell into disrepair.
By the time of the Cold War between the First Order and the Resistance, a remote outpost was located on Ashas Ree near the Jedi temple; it was the planet's only civilization. Mika Grey, a traveler seeking to safeguard Sith artifacts from the First Order, arrived at the outpost in search of the relic hidden within the Sith temple. She excavated the structure, causing it to emerge from beneath the ground after a considerable period. The outpost's inhabitants, aware of the legends surrounding the buried evil, fled, leaving behind warnings advising visitors to leave. When Grey located the artifact, she became trapped in an underground chamber after triggering a trap door upon touching it.
Two days later, the Colossus, a mobile supertanker fuel depot fleeing the First Order, happened to pass by Ashas Ree. Needing supplies, Captain Imanuel Doza sent Ace Squadron members Freya Fenris, Torra Doza, and Kazuda Xiono, along with their astromech droids, to the trading outpost. Kel and Eila, two young survivors of a First Order atrocity, convinced Xiono to secretly take them along in his shuttle because they were tired of being confined to the station. After landing and discovering that the outpost was deserted, Fenris instructed the pilots to separate and begin collecting supplies. However, Xiono became preoccupied with preventing Kel and Eila from exploring, and they eventually found their way to the Jedi and Sith temples, where the children, Xiono, and droid CB-23 heard Grey's cries for help from within.
Xiono and the children descended into the Sith temple, but were quickly separated by a door triggered by a booby trap. As Kel and Eila became lost in the corridors, CB-23 guided Xiono to the central chamber containing the relic. Xiono, disoriented after being shocked by another pressure plate trap, ignored Grey's warnings and touched the relic, resulting in him becoming trapped with her. He instructed CB-23 to locate the children, after which Grey questioned him about whether he worked for the First Order. Kel and Eila arrived in the central chamber just in time to rescue Grey and Xiono after the latter accidentally activated another trap that caused the lower chamber to become a centrifuge with a gear mechanism that nearly killed them. Once freed, Grey carefully retrieved the relic, but they had to quickly escape the temple after Xiono accidentally pressed a Sith glyph that caused the structure to collapse.
At the outpost, Fenris, Torra, and their droids had finished loading supplies into the shuttle when they noticed approaching ships. These ships belonged to the squad of First Order Raiders led by Agent Raith, who had been tracking Grey and the artifact she sought for some time. When Xiono, Grey, CB-23, and the children emerged from the temple, they saw the enemies. Grey attempted to lead the others to her ship, but it was destroyed by Raider troopers. She managed to escape as Xiono, CB-23, and the children were captured and rounded up with the others, before revealing herself and saving the others by activating the relic, which the Raiders attempted to deactivate as their erstwhile prisoners fled. The activation of the relic killed the Raiders and drained its power, rendering it worthless. Having lost her transportation, Grey accepted an offer to come to the Colossus.
The trading outpost was the only populated location on Ashas Ree. It was located right next to the Jedi temple, which had been constructed to seal off the ancient Sith temple. While the Jedi temple was known to the outpost's residents, the Sith temple was the subject of dark legends, leading the inhabitants to flee when Mika Grey raised it.
Ashas Ree made its canonical debut in "The Relic Raiders," the seventh episode of season 2 of the animated series Star Wars Resistance, which premiered on Disney Channel on November 17, 2019. In the Star Wars Legends continuity, Ashas Ree was first mentioned in the ninetieth issue of the 2003 magazine The Official Star Wars Fact File, which expanded on the first mention of the Ashas Ree system in the 1996 roleplaying game sourcebook Tales of the Jedi Companion, authored by George R. Strayton.
