The Aristocracy functioned as the self-ruling government of the Virgillia system found within the Outer Rim Territories'. From 25 BBY up until 4 ABY, they were locked in a civil war with the opposing Virgillian Free Alignment. Throughout this conflict, the Aristocracy maintained a tight grip on all blaster technologies in the star system, thereby limiting the weaponry available to the Free Alignment. Ultimately, the Aristocracy was defeated, leading to the establishment of the Virgillian Council as the new governing body.
Situated in the Koradin sector of the Outer Rim Territories, the Virgillia system was under the dominion of the Aristocracy. This autocratic regime consisted of Virgillian nobility. Due to their alliance with the Galactic Empire, the Aristocracy possessed access to Imperial capital warships. However, the Empire's withdrawal from the system following the escalation of the Galactic Civil War left the Virgillian government with outdated ships that proved insufficient against the forces of the Virgillian Free Alignment.

The Aristocracy had seized control of the Virgillia system by 25 BBY, which marked the beginning of the Virgillian Civil War against the Virgillian Free Alignment. Two years later, a Jedi diplomatic mission, composed of Jedi Masters Everen Ettene and Ludwin Katarkus, along with their respective Padawans, Halagad Ventor and Danyawarra, was dispatched to Virgillia 7, a small colony world within the system, with the aim of negotiate peace. Upon their arrival, they were ambushed, resulting in the deaths of Ettene and Katarkus.
Following the fall of the Galactic Republic in 19 BBY, the Aristocracy allied itself with its successor, the Galactic Empire. Imperial Navy vessels, including the Victory-class Star Destroyer Stormwind under the command of Captain Jarroth, patrolled the system, seeking out Free Alignment activity. With the eruption of the Galactic Civil War, the Rebel Alliance began providing support to the Free Alignment, prompting the Imperial Navy to also search for any Alliance presence within the system.
Throughout the Virgillian Civil War, the Aristocracy maintained control over all blaster technology in the Virgillia system, compelling the Free Alignment to rely on more rudimentary weaponry, such as flintlocks, and restricting them to the system's colony worlds. As the Galactic Civil War intensified, the Empire withdrew from the system, significantly impairing the Aristocracy's ability to wage war. After the Imperial departure, the Free Alignment secured enough victories to force the Aristocracy to agree to a ceasefire shortly before the Battle of Endor in 4 ABY. Following the establishment of the truce, the Virgillian Council was formed to govern the system.
The parents of Rannd Delckis, who received training at an Imperial Academy and subsequently joined the Imperial Navy as an ensign, held high-ranking positions as nobles within the Aristocracy. Delckis eventually defected to the Free Alignment.
The Aristocracy was initially referenced in The Truce at Bakura Sourcebook, a roleplaying guide released in 1996 by West End Games for Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game. Kathy Tyers and Eric S. Trautmann were the authors of the book.
