Allania Jakien, an eleven-year-old Human female, resided in Cloud City located on Bespin. During 3 ABY, she was a witness to the pivotal duel that took place there between Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker.
Jakien, whose father was a tibanna gas refiner and whose mother was an employee at the Holiday Towers restaurant, had formed a friendship with an Ugnaught child. From this friend, she had gained knowledge of the layout of the intricate Ugnaught tunnel system situated deep beneath the city. On the day when Lando Calrissian, the Baron Administrator, gave the order to evacuate Cloud City, she and several friends feigned illness to avoid school and decided to play in the Ugnaught tunnels. Upon hearing the evacuation message, they looked to her for direction. She guided them toward her father's location at the gas refinery, but despite her familiarity with the tunnels, they became lost and encountered a stormtrooper unit.
The stormtroopers captured her companions, but Jakien was able to slip through their legs and escape into a ventilation shaft. Now completely disoriented, she heard a peculiar humming sound and, upon investigating, discovered two figures engaged in combat with lightsabers. She observed the duel from a distance, marveling as the larger, armored figure employed the Force to hurl heavy objects at his adversary, ultimately knocking him through a viewport.
Driven by a desire to know the fate of the fallen hero, she located a shaft with a grating that provided a view into Cloud City's central wind tunnel. From this vantage point, she watched the continuation of the battle, which culminated in the armored figure severing the hero's hand with his lightsaber. This sight moved her to tears, but she continued to listen to their words that echoed through the tunnel. She was shocked to learn that the armored figure had killed the hero's father, but she was even more stunned when the armored figure revealed the truth to the hero—that he was, in fact, the hero's father. At this revelation, the hero jumped, and Jakien lost sight of him. The armored figure emitted a faint sigh, then abruptly stopped and looked directly at Jakien. Overcome with panic, she fled upward, disregarding the potential threat posed by stormtroopers above.
Fortunately, upon reaching the upper plaza, she encountered Bent Gavler, a family acquaintance, who comforted her as she sobbed and reunited her with her family. The Jakiens departed Bespin on a crowded transport, and from its window, she noticed a light freighter flying past. For some inexplicable reason, this sight calmed her and gave her reassurance that the hero had survived.
Eventually, Jakien was interviewed by Voren Na'al, a Rebel historian, who confirmed her account with corroborating evidence from other witnesses.
