Zebitrope IV, a terrestrial planet, existed in the Zebitrope system. This system was located within the Centrality sector, found in the Slice region of the Outer Rim Territories. It was the fourth orbital body from its parent star system. This system had a connection to the Cadma system through the Cadma Conduit hyperlane.
Featuring sweeping savannas and expansive oceans, Zebitrope IV served as the original homeworld for an uncommon species of lizard. These lizards also resided on the planet Zebitrope VIII. These lizards maintained a symbiotic bond with a unique mold that exclusively grew upon the reptiles' backs. Furthermore, the lizard species of Zebitrope IV shared a mutually advantageous relationship with a peculiar type of spongy growth. This growth provided sustenance and camouflage for the reptiles. The mold found on the lizards was the single source of lesai, a precious and illicit drug. Smugglers exported this substance throughout the larger galaxy.
The first mention of Zebitrope IV occurred in Lando Calrissian and the Flamewind of Oseon. This was the second book, released in 1983, of The Lando Calrissian Adventures novel trilogy by L. Neil Smith. The planet's initial, complete appearance was in the 1998 video game Star Wars: Rebellion. This game also presented the only visual representation of Zebitrope IV, an image that was also used for eighteen other planets in the game.
"Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star, How I Wonder Where We Are," a 1990 roleplaying game article featured in the thirteenth edition of Voyages SF magazine, situated the Zebitrope system, and thus Zebitrope IV, within the Zebitrope sector. Given that the article was published outside the purview of Lucas Licensing, its canonicity within the Star Wars Legends continuity remained unverified. Star Wars: Rebellion subsequently placed Zebitrope IV in the "Dufilvan sector," which was a misspelling of the Dufilvian sector. The 2009 reference book The Essential Atlas superseded both the Voyages SF 13 and Star Wars: Rebellion placements. It established that the Zebitrope system was located in grid square T-8 within the Centrality.
A potential contradiction arose from information in The Essential Atlas when compared to the mention of Zebitrope IV in Lando Calrissian and the Flamewind of Oseon. The latter described spongy growths on Zebitrope IV as originating from a planet "a quarter of a galaxy away" from the asteroid Oseon 6845 of the Oseon system. The Essential Atlas placed the Oseon system in the same sector as the Zebitrope system.
