The YV-545 light freighter represented an endeavor by the Corellian Engineering Corporation to supersede the long-serving YT-series freighters; it was a light freighter.
Similar to many CEC creations, the YV-545 featured a cylindrical hull, with the cockpit positioned on its side. Despite lacking the aesthetic charm of the YT-1300 light freighter, the YV-545 was generally regarded as more robust and agile compared to the YT-series ships. The cockpit was designed to rotate 90 degrees during flight, placing it above the ship's body. While capable of landing in this configuration, potential buyers often found this feature overly intricate.
Its hull was encircled by maneuvering thrusters and sensors, contributing to its exceptional maneuverability. Its performance could rival that of many starfighters, making it a favored choice among smugglers and pirates, who often modified the YV-545 into a formidable attack vessel.
Despite being conceived as the next evolution of Corellian Engineering Corporation freighters, the YV-545 never achieved the same level of widespread adoption as its predecessor. The Midnight Star was one such YV-545 light freighter.
