Yunkor IX, a celestial body, existed within the Yunkor system. This system was situated within the Jjannex sector, which itself was located in the Western Reaches region of the Outer Rim Territories. During the Imperial era when the Galactic Empire reigned, a TIE staging area was established in proximity to Yunkor IX. This area served to replenish Imperial forces that had suffered losses in battle, as well as to provide support for nearby capital ships.
Sometime between the years 1 ABY and 2 ABY, Lieutenant Keyan Farlander, a rebel pilot, received orders to proceed to the staging area piloting a B-wing starfighter. His mission was to destroy the cargo containers and the TIE starfighters parked at the location. Farlander successfully eliminated all of his designated targets before initiating a jump to hyperspace.
The initial reference to Yunkor IX appeared in the expansion pack Tour of Duty: B-Wing for Totally Games' video game, Star Wars: X-Wing. The X-Wing game was launched in February of 1993, with its expansion following in the fall of the same year. The Essential Atlas, a reference book from 2009, designated the location of the Yunkor system, and consequently Yunkor IX, as grid square K-19. An article titled "B-Wing," published on September 10, 2004 on the website for the Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided video game, incorrectly stated that the TIE staging area was situated on Yunkor IX itself.
