Wild Karrde

The Wild Karrde served as a mobile headquarters and smuggling vessel for Talon Karrde; this ship was a significantly altered Action VI bulk transport from the Corellian Engineering Corporation. The ship's exterior, marked by dents and a weathered hull, cleverly masked its role as a sophisticated mobile base for Karrde and his band of smugglers.

A standard Action VI bulk freighter rolling off the CEC's production line would typically be a cumbersome and defenseless transport, designed solely for hauling massive quantities of raw materials within its expansive cargo bays.

The Wild Karrde, however, was far from ordinary. To defend against frequent Imperial patrols searching for his illicit goods, Karrde implemented extensive modifications. He installed three powerful, retractable turbolasers, providing the ship with unexpected firepower. The hull was completely reinforced with double-layered durasteel plating, carefully color-matched to the original hull to avoid detection. Furthermore, deflector shields and a substantial power generator were discreetly integrated into the ship's core.

Because Talon Karrde maintained a vast network of spies and informants across numerous worlds, he converted most of the vessel's passenger and crew quarters into a sprawling communications center. A massive hyperradio rectenna enabled instant communication with his intelligence sources, while illegally obtained HoloNet transceivers intercepted and recorded countless transmissions from across the galaxy. This sensor array also included a cloaking device capable of rendering the Wild Karrde invisible to passive scans. The system also broadcasted false transponder signals to mislead anyone inquiring about the ship's cargo.

The Wild Karrde

One section of the cargo hold was equipped with a life support system, often used to conceal smuggled individuals. This area also contained a kennel for Karrde's vornskrs pets. Another part of the cargo bay housed at least one small repulsorlift vehicle at all times. A fully equipped medical bay provided care for injured crew members or passengers. Another area served as storage for Karrde's collection of droids, ranging from astromechs to GNK power droids. Finally, a unique force tube located at the rear of the ship could create a small, breathable pathway in the vacuum of space, intended for rescuing stranded pilots.

As was common practice for smuggling ships, the Wild Karrde frequently operated under various false identities and registrations. One such alias was Hab Camber, registered in Valrar to Abel Quiller, a pseudonym used by Karrde's subordinate Dankin. This particular alias was employed during the Raid on Bilbringi, when Karrde's Smugglers' Alliance infiltrated the Imperial shipyards.

History

The ship was spotted near Outpost 327 in 4 ABY, during Ace Azzameen's theft of the shuttle Tydirium.

The Wild Karrde was Talon Karrde's flagship throughout the New Republic era.

In 9 ABY, when Thrawn journeyed to Myrkr to acquire ysalamiri, Karrde recognized their importance and stored some aboard the Wild Karrde. Later that year, he used the ship to attend a meeting with fellow smugglers on Trogan.

During the Almanian Uprising in 17 ABY, Karrde piloted the ship during the Battle of Almania, successfully destroying a Victory-class Star Destroyer.

In 19 ABY, Karrde utilized the ship to traverse the galaxy in support of the New Republic, investigating connections between recent riots related to the destruction of Camass and a group of instigators known as Vengeance. Subsequently, he piloted the Wild Karrde into the Kathol Outback in search of Jorj Car'das and a potential copy of the Caamas Document. The Aing-Tii Monks transported the ship to Bastion, after which it was used to smuggle Gilad Pellaeon to the Star Destroyer Relentless at Yaga Minor.

Karrde continued to use the ship during the Yuuzhan Vong War. In 26 ABY, Karrde commanded other ships from his organization in an effort to break a Yuuzhan Vong blockade surrounding Yavin IV.

Behind the scenes

The ship's name, like those of Karrde's other vessels, is a play on words, resembling "wild card."
