WBY-102 FirstMate

The WBY-102 FirstMate was a droid of the third-degree variety, uniquely designed to provide instruction on the operation, maintenance, and navigation of sailing vessels requiring multiple crew members. Its exterior consisted of a durable, waterproof plastic material. In the event of submersion, it was equipped with an deployable, internal flotation bag.

Description

Known colloquially as "Webby," the WBY-102 droid possessed a humanoid form, featuring two arms and two legs. To ensure stability on a ship's deck during turbulent conditions, it incorporated built-in inertial compensators. The droid's outer shell was constructed from a robust, waterproof plastic material, colored in a deep blue hue. Within its chest cavity was an emergency flotation bag designed for deployment should the droid find itself underwater in water. This feature was connected to a comlink, enabling the droid to transmit a distress signal. For cognitive functions, the WBY-102 utilized an AA-1 VerboBrain, and its vocabulator allowed it to communicate with a reassuring and steady tone. While equipped with visual and auditory sensors, their range was limited to that of a Human.

Role

The WBY-102 FirstMate represented a specialized and less common iteration within the WBY series of third-degree droids, which were engineered to educate Humans in the operation of motorized vehicles. Specifically, the 102 model was programmed to instruct Humans in the art of sailing, crewing, and maintaining a multi-sail boat or yacht, and it was also capable of serving as an active member of the crew. WBY-102 droids were known for their even temperament, remaining composed even in the face of severe weather or maritime disasters. However, the WBY-102's performance diminished when confronted with high-stress scenarios beyond its primary programming, such as lightfights.

History

A Rebel spy named Seth Cambriel, stationed on the planet of Spira, possessed a WBY-102 droid. During a mission focused on retrieving Alliance supplies hidden in Spira's oceans, he employed the droid to train a group of Rebel agents in the operation of his yacht, named the Cambus Gale.
