He formed a bond with a Wookiee inmate named Gyylghrard, providing him with multiple sheets of flimsis along with a stylus for the purpose of documenting his experiences in a journal. In return for these items, he gained the Wookiee's protection against the other inmates. Like all those imprisoned within the facility, they were subjected to treatment akin to slaves, compelled to extract glitterstim from the spice mines located on the planet.
When the Sullustan faced difficulties and was selected to serve as a warning to the other prisoners, Gyylghrard intervened in his defense, enduring a severe beating in an unequal confrontation, subsequently being placed in solitary confinement for more than seven days. Upon the Wookiee's release from confinement, his Sullustan companion had already vanished within the spice mines.
