An aged man of the human species was discovered to be a member of the Path of the Open Hand cult. He was located inside a hut situated at the Path compound on the planet Dalna not long before the Night of Sorrow in 382 BBY. The discovery was made by Jedi Master Yaddle and Jedi Initiate Cippa Tarko. Yaddle and Tarko were involved in a secret mission to look into the Path, and they chose to examine the structures, including the man's hut, as everyone had been evacuating, leaving them empty. Under the mistaken impression that the two Jedi were members of the Path, the man urged them to accompany the others and asserted his desire to remain where he was. He clarified that the oldest among them were designated to stay behind to serve as a protective barrier and affirmed that he would be alright, given his supplies of food and rainwater. Yaddle used a deception to get him to describe the nature of the gathering that the others were attending; he revealed it to be a significant undertaking by the Path, intended to actualize their beliefs, involving a weapon capable of defeating the Jedi. After fixing the roof of his hut, a gesture he took as a kindness, the Jedi departed, and as they did, he proclaimed death to all Force-users.
