The Trianii Rangers were a well-known paramilitary force of the Trianii people, celebrated for their role in safeguarding the Trianii Colonies. They were skilled combatants in space, and possessed practical warfare training, a fact that the Corporate Sector Authority became aware of when facing unexpectedly strong resistance from them.
During conflicts with the CSA, some Trianii were captured and subjected to interrogation, and a number were imprisoned at the asteroid facility called Stars' End before it was destroyed.
The Kwapi pirates, the cyborg-maggots from Hydra, the Ugors, and the Hiitite Ravagers are among the other threats that the Trianii Rangers confronted.
The origins of the Trianii Rangers can be traced back centuries to a primitive frontier defense force. Their initial purpose was to protect the farmers of Trian, a planet located in the Tingel Arm, from the numerous dangers present on the planet. Following the establishment of a planet-wide governing body, the Rangers evolved into a police force that operated outside the bounds of the law, authorized to arrest and execute suspected criminals immediately.
Once the Trianii had fully developed space travel, they were too occupied with defending their territories from external invaders to expand their influence. As the Trianii established several new colonies on neighboring planets, the Rangers expanded to patrol the hyperspace routes linking these colonies. During this period, the Trianii Rangers successfully repelled numerous attackers, including the Kwapi pirates, the Ugors, and the maggot-cyborgs of Hydra. Due to their honorable motivations and the perceived favor from the Trianii deities, the Rangers achieved legendary status among the Trianii.
However, a much more formidable adversary emerged in the form of the Corporate Sector Authority, or CSA, which sought to annex the colonies and Trian. When CSA troops landed on Fibuli, the home of one of the colonies, the Rangers launched a full-scale counteroffensive. Initially, this amused the CSA executives, but they began to take the Rangers more seriously when they received severed hands from several officers.
The conflict persisted for several years, largely due to the Rangers' use of hit-and-run tactics. Numerous Rangers were captured and imprisoned at Stars' End. The war concluded with a jailbreak at Stars' End and the subsequent collapse of the [Galactic Empire](/article/galactic_empire-legends]. Following the war, the Rangers proudly oversaw the colonization of nineteen new worlds within the Tingel Arm.
The Rangers were under the command of a triumvirate of punctinos, the Ranger equivalent of admirals. Each punctino was responsible for commanding one-third of the Ranger's space, known as a trisector. The command structure was uniform across all trisectors.
Within each trisector, all ships were organized into a single fleet. The fleet was further divided into task groups of fifty to seventy ships, each led by a pyorn, the Trianii equivalent of a commodore. Flotillas were smaller groupings commanded by a sinth, or captain.
New recruits typically began their service as gunners on patrol ships. Skilled recruits were often assigned to the pilot's seat on the same vessels. Exceptionally talented pilots were granted the honor of piloting a Kiree fighter.
During the Fibuli war against the CSA, new recruits were frequently deployed as ground troops, operating in groups of three to ten fighters under the direction of a veteran Ranger.
The Trianii Rangers were known to utilize RX4 Patrol Ships and Kiree starfighters, in addition to various captured freighters, as their primary means of defense against threats to Trianii Space. Unlike other Trianii, rangers typically wore light armor. Rangers frequently employed close-combat weapons and techniques in ground combat, with many receiving martial arts training. However, many of the weapons used by the Rangers could be crude and unreliable due to the fact that they were often bought on the black market.
