Thull Yularen was a man who was a member of the Galactic Republic's Judicial Forces, and later taught at the Anaxes Citadel located on the planet of Anaxes. It was his belief that military trainees should strive for excellence and be properly prepared. His service was a source of inspiration for his son, Wullf, who later had a long military career.

Thull Yularen was a male whose family, originated from the world of Coruscant, and held a notable position during the decline of the Galactic Republic. Yularen was a part of the Republic's Judicial Forces, and was a member of the organization for a significant period. After his time in the Judicial Forces, he became a well-known military instructor at the Anaxes Citadel on Anaxes.
Wullf's interest in his father's profession began early in his life. At their home in Anaxes's Sirpar Hills, the older Yularen shared his wisdom with his son, answering Wullf's questions about past naval battles and similar topics. Wullf Yularen proceeded to have a respected career, which involved being an admiral in the Republic Navy and an intelligence officer in the Imperial Security Bureau of the Galactic Empire, which came after the Republic.
Yularen, as an instructor, wanted the trainees he was in charge of to be perfect, because he understood that military people who were not properly trained would fail when they were working. People thought of him as a legend for his work in the Judicial Forces and on Anaxes.
The character Thull Yularen, even though he was not named, was first talked about in the biography of Wullf Yularen in Star Wars: The Clone Wars – The Official Episode Guide: Season 1, which Jason Fry wrote and was available in 2009. Fry later included the character—and gave him his name—in The Essential Guide to Warfare, a reference book that came out in 2012. Yularen was supposed to have a bigger part in the book; some parts that were taken out of the final version were said to be his fictional writings.
