Thire

Thire, designated as CC-4477, was a clone shock trooper who held the position of a clone trooper officer within the Coruscant Guard of both the Galactic Republic and its successor, the Galactic Empire. His military career began as a lieutenant within the Guard's diplomatic service branch. He eventually ascended to the rank of Clone Commander, leading the Guard's Senate Building security detachment near the conclusion of the Clone Wars. Thire's genetic makeup was derived from the blueprint of the human bounty hunter Jango Fett, enabling him to serve alongside genetically identical clone troopers in the ranks of the Grand Army of the Republic. Early in the Clone Wars, specifically in 22 BBY, Thire accompanied Jedi General Yoda on a mission to Rugosa. The purpose was for the general to try and establish an alliance between King Katuunko and the Republic. The lieutenant sustained injuries during an encounter with Separatist Alliance battle droids, but with Yoda's assistance, he survived.

By the time of Order 66, which saw the clone troopers betraying the Jedi Order, Thire had been promoted to the military rank of commander. Yoda's attempt to overthrow [Darth Sidious](/article/darth_sidious], the Sith Lord who had declared himself Galactic Emperor, resulted in him being hunted by Thire's shock troopers. The Jedi Grand Master successfully evaded capture by escaping the Galactic Senate Building on Coruscant. Subsequently, Thire's squad escorted the Emperor to Mustafar, where they carried out the rescue of [Darth Vader](/article/anakin_skywalker], the Sith apprentice.

Biography

Clone Wars

CC-4477, also known as "Thire," who held the rank of Clone Lieutenant, was a member of the clone shock trooper unit serving in the Coruscant Guard. This Guard was an elite division of Grand Army clone troopers with the responsibility of keeping the peace on Coruscant, the capital world of the Galactic Republic, throughout the Clone Wars. Like all clone [troopers](/article/trooper], Thire's creation took place on the planet Kamino, utilizing the genetic source provided by [Jango Fett](/article/jango_fett], the bounty hunter. He underwent rigorous training to prepare him for his role in the Republic Military.

Ambush on Rugosa

In 22 BBY, after the First Battle of Geonosis, Yoda, the Jedi General and Grand Master of the Jedi Order, journeyed to Rugosa, a moon, to negotiate a potential alliance between the Galactic Republic and King Katuunko of Toydaria against the Confederacy of Independent Systems. Lieutenant Thire, along with two other clone guards known as "Jek" and "Rys," formed a small squad and accompanied Yoda to meet with the leader of the Toydarians.

Thire was a lieutenant during the mission on Rugosa.

During their voyage to Rugosa, Jedi Master Yoda and his troopers were attacked by Separatist warships in an attempt to prevent the meeting between Yoda and Katuunko. They were forced to abandon their Republic frigate and Yoda, Thire, Jek, and Rys boarded an escape pod to reach the moon's surface. Consequently, the Separatist Droid Army was deployed to hunt down and eliminate the Republic envoy, hoping to sway Katuunko to support the Confederacy's cause, which led to Thire's first major battle. Thire and his troopers used the terrain to their advantage and successfully ambushed the battle droids, taking out several enemy units. However, due to the droids' superior numbers, Yoda instructed the clones to retreat while he covered their escape using his skills.

After finding a cave, Yoda allowed the clones time to recover before they continued their mission. Yoda provided Thire with a modified DC-15A blaster rifle to use as a makeshift crutch because he had injured his leg during the initial skirmish. While assessing their situation, the clones realized that their dwindling supplies were insufficient to face a battalion of droid [soldiers](/article/soldier]. Noticing their low morale, Yoda inspired them to find strength in their individuality and personal traits. He advised Thire to exercise patience instead of rushing into battle, emphasizing that the war would be long and survival was crucial. After reflecting on the Grand Master's advice, Thire and his men left the cave to investigate a nearby group of battle droids.

After defeating the battle droids, Yoda, Thire, Jek and Rys saved King Katuunko from Asajj Ventress.

Yoda decided to confront the droids alone, instructing the shock troopers to remain in position and wait for the opportune moment to provide support. As the general single-handedly destroyed multiple units, the clones spotted a group of droideka reinforcements approaching Yoda's location. Using the squad's last rocket, Thire triggered a rockslide on the side of the canyon to destroy the droidekas. Having made their general proud, the clones and Yoda proceeded to the rendezvous point and ultimately prevented Asajj Ventress, the Separatist commander, from assassinating Katuunko. Impressed by their efforts, the king pledged his allegiance to the Republic. Subsequently, Republic reinforcements arrived on Rugosa, allowing Thire to board a Low Altitude Assault Transport/infantry gunship with Yoda, Katuunko, Jek, and Rys. Thire then received medical attention from a medical droid, who used bacta to treat his injured leg.

Imperial service

After the Clone Wars, Thire (center) went on to serve the Galactic Empire, enforcing Emperor Palpatine's rule on Coruscant and the galaxy.

Throughout his service in the Clone Wars, Thire remembered Yoda's words of encouragement on Rugosa, that he and his men were unique despite being clones. In 19 BBY, as the war was coming to an end, Sheev Palpatine, the Supreme Chancellor and alter ego of the Sith Lord Darth Sidious, declared that all Jedi were traitors and enemies of the state. Consequently, he ordered the clone army to execute Order 66, a secret protocol authorizing the extermination of the Jedi. The clone troopers obeyed the chancellor without hesitation, having been secretly programmed to comply with Order 66. As a result, Thire also turned against the Jedi and, like his brothers, soon found himself serving the Galactic Empire that replaced the Republic.

After Yoda's attempt to prematurely end the reign of Emperor Palpatine, who was also Darth Sidious, the Coruscant Guard searched the Galactic Senate Building but found no evidence of Yoda's demise. Thire, now a commander in charge of the Coruscant Guard detachment guarding the Senate Building, was tasked with finding Yoda and reported their lack of progress directly to the Emperor and Mas Amedda, who concluded that the Grand Master was still alive. Sidious instructed Thire to continue the search before sensing that his Sith apprentice, Darth Vader, was in danger on Mustafar. Thire's squad escorted the Emperor to rescue the critically wounded Vader after Yoda escaped the Imperial shock troopers with the assistance of Senator Bail Organa.

Personality and traits

As with clone troopers in general, Thire was a loyal soldier who obeyed the orders of his Jedi leader.

Thire was a physically identical clone of Jango Fett, a human male who stood at 1.83 [meters](/article/meter] tall, with the exception of certain alterations that affected growth acceleration and enhanced docility. Like his progenitor, Thire had black hair and brown eyes.

Like his clone brothers, Thire was trained to be a capable and loyal soldier of the Galactic Republic. He was also dedicated to completing his assignments; Thire once volunteered to stay behind with his men and confront a battalion of battle droids so that Yoda could proceed with their mission on Rugosa. The Jedi Master declined Thire's offer and instructed his troopers to remove their helmets, an order which Thire followed but did not understand. He believed that the clones were physically identical because they were all genetically identical and grown from the same template. Yoda argued that although Thire and his brethren were clones, he felt that each of them was uniquely different through the Force. He therefore encouraged them to draw strength from their individual traits, such as patience in Thire's case. After defeating the droid battalion, Thire felt that he and his men had benefited from Yoda's teachings.

Thire used his squad's last rocket to save General Yoda from a group of droidekas.

After the Clone Wars, Thire followed an order to hunt Yoda, who was now his former ally-turned-fugitive. Like almost every clone trooper who had a control chip in their brain, Thire's programming forced him to comply with Order 66 against his will without question or hesitation, despite the long-standing alliance between the clones and their Jedi leaders. In contrast to his turning against the Jedi, Thire remained obedient to the will of Emperor Palpatine.

Equipment

Thire's Phase II armor reflected his affiliation with the Coruscant Guard.

Thire initially wore the Phase I clone trooper armor, which was the standard armor worn by all regular clone units at the start of the Clone Wars. In addition to the distinctive red patterns that identified him as a member of the Coruscant Guard, Thire customized his armor with a few additional pieces, such as a command pauldron and macrobinoculars.

Besides two DC-17 repeater hand blasters, Thire carried the standard DC-15A blaster rifle. During the mission on Rugosa, he also used a RPS-6 rocket launcher to protect his Jedi general from a group of droidekas. By the end of the Clone Wars, Thire had switched to the phase II clone trooper armor and customized it with the Guard's new markings. While his armor during the early days of the Empire resembled that of his subordinates, Thire later wore his Phase II gear with a pauldron.

Behind the scenes

Thire's first appearance was in Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith, where Temuera Morrison provided his voice. Like all clone troopers in the film, he was portrayed using computer-generated imagery. Dee Bradley Baker, the clone trooper voiceover artist, voiced Thire in "Ambush," the first episode of Star Wars: The Clone Wars.
