Theed signal jammer

A signal jammer was situated within Theed, the principal city and capital of the planet of Naboo. This device was crucial in preventing enemy starships from gaining access to the city. However, in 32 BBY, it suffered destruction at the hands of the Trade Federation Droid Army, acting under the command of OOM-9, a B1-Series battle droid, to enable the capture of Theed.

Description

Located in the northeastern sector of Theed, the capital and city inhabited by Humans on the Mid Rim planet of Naboo, was a signal jammer. Its purpose was to deny starships permission to land inside the city's boundaries. The jammer itself had a rotating pole supporting a black panel, all mounted on a paved brick foundation. Flanking the device were two turrets of moderate strength, and it was surrounded by residential structures, power stations, and a hangar.

History

The jammer under attack

In 32 BBY, Naboo was subjected to an invasion by the Trade Federation and its Droid Army, with the intent to seize capture of Theed. Given that the signal jammer was hindering the landing of any hostile forces within the city, Nute Gunray, the Trade Federation Viceroy, tasked OOM-9, a B1-Series battle droid, with neutralizing the jammer. OOM-9 forced entry through Theed's gates with an elite battalion that included two energy pummels, eight Armored Assault Tanks, Heavy Armored Assault Tank of OOM-9, three manned Single Trooper Aerial Platforms, and fifteen Heavy Battle Droids.

The droids battled through pockets of resistance from the Royal Naboo Security Forces to get to the jammer. After crossing one of the city's bridges, a royal trooper realized that the army was targeting the jammer. Once the droids arrived at the jammer's location, OOM-9 dispatched a pummel to first eliminate the turrets, after which the remainder of his forces took out the hangar and the signal jammer, thereby enabling additional reinforcements to land within the city and take control of it.
