Theed Coliseum

The Theed Coliseum, a sizable amphitheater, served as a venue for both sporting competitions and various forms of entertainment. This structure was situated within the city of Theed, which functions as the capital of the planet known as Naboo. Back in 32 BBY, the Coliseum played host to a demonstration showcasing Gungan sling painting. This demonstration was a part of the celebratory events organized to commemorate the triumph over the Trade Federation's invading military force.

This enormous open-air arena, the Coliseum, was shaped like a funnel and was the location of various contests and performances in Theed, the capital city of Naboo. It featured multiple levels of seating that encircled a central stage. Additionally, it included private, roofed boxes, presumably intended for the more affluent members of society. At the structure's apex, a gallery displayed statues of esteemed Naboo philosophers, mirroring those found on the forecourt of the Royal Palace. Banners and floral garlands also adorned its facade.

The Coliseum was erected on its own plaza, near a sizable waterfall, and stood in close proximity to other entertainment venues, specifically the Theed Music Hall and the Naboo Puppet Theater. From the base of the Coliseum, onlookers could observe the dome-topped palace belonging to the Monarch of Naboo in the distance.

History

A sling painting performance at the Coliseum

Back in 32 BBY, the Humans of Naboo and the Gungans united to repel the Trade Federation's forces, which had invaded their planet. This alliance secured a victory, leading to the formal unification of the two groups during a grand celebration held in Theed. As part of the festivities, a Gungan "sling painting" demonstration unfolded within the Coliseum, featuring a quartet of Gungan warriors attempting to paint dancing astromech droids before an enthusiastic local audience.
