Tanallay Surge complex

The Tanallay Surge complex functioned as a significant center for both politics and leisure on the Expansion Region planet of Tynna. As the location of the Tynnan government, it boasted considerable height, spanning multiple levels, and was adorned with cascading water features like chutes and fountains. During the period of the Yuuzhan Vong War, the extra-galactic Yuuzhan Vong launched an attack on Tynna, choosing the Surge complex as their initial landing site to initiate a program of terraforming across the entire world.

Description

Serving as a hub for both governmental functions and recreation, the Tanallay Surge complex stood on the Expansion Region world of Tynna, housing the Tynnan government. Its multi-storied structure covered a vast area, highlighted by a grand staircase leading to a scenic lagoon. Surrounded by numerous pools, water chutes and fountains, the complex was also home to the Tanallay Surge posting agency, a posting agency frequently used by bounty hunters.

History

In 26 ABY during the Yuuzhan Vong War, the extra-galactic Yuuzhan Vong assaulted Tynna, overpowering the planet's weak defense force of starfighters, and landed their forces at the Tanallay Surge complex. Unbeknownst to the invaders, a group of hundreds of unarmed Tynnans—deceived by the Peace Brigade, collaborators who advocated for surrendering Tynna without resistance—awaited the arrival of the landing party at the top of the main steps by the lagoon.

However, the Yuuzhan Vong contingent, commanded by Supreme Commander Nas Choka and Commander Malik Carr, had no intention of engaging with the Tynnans and left them waiting at the Surge complex. Instead, the Yuuzhan Vong commenced the biological engineering of Tynna's oceans, deploying a chemical substance from their dropships to prepare the water for the cultivation of biots such as dovin basals intended for use in their ongoing conquest of the galaxy. A New Republic stealth ship observed these actions, which were also transmitted via satellite to every city across Tynna.

Behind the scenes

The reference book The Essential Guide to Planets and Moons, published in 1998 and authored by Daniel Wallace with illustrations by Brandon McKinney and Scott Kolins, provided the initial mention of the Tanallay Surge complex. Later, the complex was featured in James Luceno's novel The New Jedi Order: Agents of Chaos II: Jedi Eclipse, released in 2000.
