The StarViper Mk. II, alternatively called the StarViper M-2, represented an altered version of the original StarViper-class attack platform. This updated design reduced its offensive capabilities compared to the initial model, exchanging its powerful heavy laser cannons for less potent lasers and enhanced shielding. Furthermore, it removed the original's proton torpedo launchers, substituting them with ion cannons. Despite the reduced firepower, the added adaptability of the ion cannons resulted in the craft's popularity among pirate groups and various other illicit factions, notably the Zann Consortium.
During the period of the Galactic Civil War fought between the forces of the Galactic Empire and the Rebel Alliance, numerous criminal syndicates utilized the StarViper Mk. II fighter. A Kubaz operative named Thweek, who was a spy working for Teemo the Hutt, possessed a StarViper Mk. II. Dalan Oberos, a bounty hunter, also owned one of these modified StarViper craft. It was also common knowledge that Black Sun assassins piloted StarViper Mk. IIs on their assignments.
