Havoc on Hoth, the second installment of the Star Wars 3-D comic book series, continues the saga.
Following their escapades on Tatooine, Luke, Han, Chewbacca, and C-3PO journey back to the Yavin system aboard the Millennium Falcon. To their surprise, they discover the Rebellion's base on Yavin 4 is besieged by an Imperial Fleet, commanded by Admiral Quist and overseen by Darth Vader. Han skillfully pilots the Falcon to evade capture and land on the planet, while Quist faces Vader's wrath for his failure and is executed. Upon reaching an ancient Yavin Base, Luke and his companions presume the Rebels have evacuated, finding the location deserted. Fortunately, the group manages to intercept the fleet at a clandestine meeting point, where Princess Leia reveals the urgent need for a new base. Han proposes the icy planet of Hoth, believing its desolate nature will be overlooked by the Empire. The team sets off to explore the uncharted territory, and upon arrival, they deploy their landspeeder in search of a vast ice cavern suitable for a base. Regrettably, their search leads them to encounter Salmakk, a smuggler who seeks to claim the bounty on Han's head. Evading capture in their landspeeder, the group inadvertently crashes into the smuggler's headquarters. Luke employs his lightsaber to sever stalactites from the cave ceiling, triggering a cave-in. The Rebels narrowly escape as Salmakk and his accomplices are buried beneath the debris. Despite their successful escape, Luke and Han are reminded of the pressing need to locate a new base for the displaced Rebellion.
