Development

It was confirmed on June 20, 2024 that this issue would be the final one in Charles Soule's series. Charles Soule completed the lettering draft of Star Wars 50 by July 2, at which point he expressed his gratitude to Madibek Musabekov for his "gorgeous" artwork. In his July newsletter, Soule promised a more in-depth post about issue 50 after its release and also revealed the individual titles of the four chapters.

Soule considers War of the Bounty Hunters, Star Wars: Crimson Reign, Star Wars: Hidden Empire, and Star Wars: Dark Droids to be integral parts of his main Star Wars narrative, suggesting that this issue functions more like the seventieth issue rather than the fiftieth. The fifty-page edition is segmented into distinct chapters, drawing a comparison to a graphic novel's structure. Upon its release, Soule intended to reflect on the accomplishment and contemplated a retrospective analysis of the series in a newsletter format.

Continuity

Star Wars 50 serves to connect various time periods within the Star Wars universe that Charles Soule has explored in his writing—spanning from the time of the High Republic Era all the way through the sequel trilogy—and consolidates a significant amount of material from both the main Star Wars series and its various spin-offs. However, the design of the issue ensures it can be enjoyed independently of the broader Star Wars storyline, allowing readers unfamiliar with the comic series to still understand and appreciate it.
