In 1991, following a five-year period devoid of fresh Star Wars fiction, Bantam Spectra released Timothy Zahn's novel Heir to the Empire, reigniting interest in that distant galaxy to levels unseen since the debut of the "final" film, Return of the Jedi. Later that same year, Dark Horse Comics secured the Star Wars comic-book license, making a convergence of these two interests seem almost inevitable.
