Storyline

An early concept of the cover by Adam Hughes

On Eriadu, a planet located in the Outer Rim Territories, Imperial stormtroopers are hunting for Jedi Master Tsui Choi. After Choi surprises and defeats them, he encounters another Jedi survivor, Bultar Swan. Swan informs Choi about an upcoming meeting of Jedi who survived Order 66. Guided by Bultar, the pair journey to the infamous planet Kessel.

Meanwhile, on Coruscant, Darth Vader concludes his torture of the Jedi Dama Montalvo by ending his life, because Dama refused to reveal the whereabouts of Obi-Wan Kenobi. Darth Sidious, his master, then arrives and scolds him for his impatience in finding the remaining Jedi, especially his former master. Subsequently, a trooper tells Lord Vader that Imperial spies have learned of the Jedi gathering.

The Jedi who organized the meeting is Shadday Potkin. Bultar and Tsui's arrival brings the total number of Jedi present to eight. The Jedi debate how to deal with the Empire and the purge of their order. Koffi Arana suggests embracing the dark side to defeat Vader. As the Jedi consider this, they sense a dark presence approaching. It is none other than Lord Vader. Shadday had secretly "invited" the Sith Lord by spreading rumors that Obi-Wan would be present, hoping that the Jedi group could trap and overpower Vader. To aid in this plan, she uses a blade woven with cortosis.

Darth Vader following the battle

Vader swiftly eliminates one of the Jedi, Sia-Lan Wezz, and quickly dispatches another, Ma'kis'shaalas, while battling the remaining Jedi. Shadday confronts Vader and neutralizes his lightsaber with the cortosis weapon. However, Vader uses the Force to seize Shadday, takes her weapon, and breaks her neck. Using the cortosis blade, Vader disables the lightsabers of Roblio Darté and Arana. The Aleena Choi severs Vader's hand and, with the help of the others, forces him to "surrender." Arana doubts Vader's sincerity, and when Bultar objects, pointing out that the Jedi do not kill unarmed opponents, Arana takes Bultar's saber, kills her, and goes after Vader. However, he underestimates Vader, who uses the cortosis blade still attached to his severed hand to impale Arana with a wave of his hand. He then grabs a spare lightsaber dropped by one of the fallen Jedi. The three remaining Jedi unite and use the Force to hurl debris at Vader. Almost defeated, Tsui Choi decides that killing Vader is necessary, but a group of stormtroopers arrives and opens fire. Jastus Farr is shot and falls to his death, while Choi distracts the troopers, giving Darté a chance to escape. However, Vader interferes, and the two remaining Jedi are killed by the blaster fire. Vader returns to Coruscant, where the story of his destruction of the Jedi conclave has become a legend, claiming that Vader hunted down and destroyed a group of fifty Jedi.

Consistency

There are some inconsistencies in the lightsaber colors. For example, Sia-Lan Wezz is shown using a green lightsaber when she first attacks Vader, but the blade changes from green to pink in the panel showing Vader cutting off her hand.
