Star Wars: Episode VI Revenge of the Jedi

Star Wars: Episode VI Revenge of the Jedi represents the initial screenplay iteration for what ultimately became Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi.

Synopsis

The movie's original concept revolved around Luke Skywalker and his allies endeavoring to rescue the galaxy from the oppressive Galactic Empire. Endor was initially envisioned as the "Green Moon," a satellite orbiting Had Abbadon, the Empire's central world.

Development

The initial script for the original trilogy's third installment, titled Star Wars: Episode IV Revenge Of The Jedi, was finalized on February 20, 1981. George Lucas' primary concept for the third Star Wars movie centered on Luke Skywalker and Leia Organa's exploits to free Han Solo from Boba Fett, the bounty hunter's grasp. However, this idea was abandoned when he opted against producing a third trilogy. The script, co-authored by Lawrence Kasdan and Lucas, depicted a power struggle between Darth Vader, Grand Moff Jerjerrod, and The Emperor for Luke Skywalker's allegiance.

A subsequent draft, penned by Kasdan, was completed on September 21, 1981. This version omitted Had Abbadon, reinstated Vader as a more prominent antagonist, and introduced Dagobah. Furthermore, Han Solo's character was killed off, among other alterations.

Following several postponements, this draft was discarded, and on November 1, 1981, the shooting script, bearing the title Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi, was presented. The film saw its release in 1983.

Legacy

The notion of a Star Wars film incorporating the word Revenge in its title was later revived in 2005 with Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith.
