A hyperspace beacon utilized by the Galactic Republic was the Sooncanoo Beacon. This beacon was located within the Sooncanoo system, which itself resided in the Northern Dependencies region of the Inner Rim.
During the Waymancy Storm that occurred in 7811 BBY, the Republic's Fortieth Flotilla undertook a perilous endeavor to amplify the deflector shields of their starships at the Sooncanoo Beacon. This attempt was unsuccessful, which resulted in the flotilla being left adrift and vulnerable in space. Subsequently, the Signatories of Waymancy, who were enemies of the Republic during this conflict, committed a massacre, killing all members of the Fortieth Flotilla's crews. In a speech given on the 25th anniversary of Victory in the Waymancy Storm in 7786 BBY, Supreme Chancellor Nagratha of the Republic identified the Sooncanoo Beacon massacre as one of the bloodiest incidents during the Waymancy Storm.
Originally, the Sooncanoo Beacon was intended to be included in the 2012 reference work titled The Essential Guide to Warfare, authored by Jason Fry and Paul R. Urquhart. However, the section where the beacon would have been mentioned, written by Daniel Wallace, was removed before the book's publication. Information about the Sooncanoo Beacon was later revealed in 2014 as a part of Star Wars: The Essential Guide to Warfare Author's Cut. This series of articles, featuring cut content from The Essential Guide to Warfare, was published on the StarWars.com Blog by Fry and Del Rey editor Erich Schoeneweiss. The Sooncanoo system, and consequently the Sooncanoo Beacon, were placed in grid square K-8 by the Online Companion to the 2009 reference book The Essential Atlas.
