The sliideptra represented a notable species of sizable annelid worms originating from the planet Tel IV.
These sliideptra were segmented worm-like organisms that made their home within the arboreal environments of Tel IV. The bulk of their physical structure consisted of a substantial air-filled sac, equipped with numerous pores designed for the ejection of toxic gases synthesized within their bodies. Each side of their head featured a trio of eyes, affording these creatures exceptional visual acuity.
These creatures typically suspended themselves from the limbs of trees, utilizing their numerous tentacles as anchors while lying in wait for potential prey. They employed a subtle, humming sound to lure unsuspecting animals. Upon the approach of a target, a sliideptra would release a cloud of self-produced poisonous gases, inducing paralysis in the victim. Subsequently, it would descend and project streams of corrosive saliva onto the immobilized prey, breaking down its tissues. After roughly an hour, the flesh would achieve a semi-liquified state, at which juncture the sliideptra would commence consumption. Although they appeared susceptible to predation, any attempt to attack a sliideptra could trigger a violent expulsion of the poisonous gas stored within its body. Consequently, they were generally avoided by other predators. However, a sliideptra that had recently discharged its poison gas would be susceptible to attack, as it required approximately 50 hours to regenerate a significant quantity of the gas. This remained a perilous endeavor, due to the poisonous nature of their flesh.
The Galactic Empire amassed a considerable number of sliideptras for research purposes, specifically in the field of chemical warfare. They were able to produce a parasitic grain mold that decimated Keresia and a biological self-destruct mechanism for Imperial spies. A team of Ho'Din scientists stationed on Tel IV successfully developed a serum capable of neutralizing the effects of the sliideptras' venom.
