The Simoomian sensory hound was a species of non-sentient six-legged canid native to the planet Simoom, according to legends. Celebrated for their extraordinarily keen eyesight, hearing, and sense of smell, these creatures were tamed by herders; furthermore, the majority of noble estates within the Senex and Juvex sectors kept packs of sensory hounds for both hunting purposes and security measures.
During an incident on the planet Mimban in the year 2 ABY, the protocol droid C-3PO mistakenly identified the loud, wailing sound produced by an energy mining drill as the sound of Simoomian sensory hounds. Consequently, he incorrectly believed that the Galactic Empire had unleashed a pack of these hounds to pursue himself alongside fellow Rebel Alliance members R2-D2, Luke Skywalker, and Leia Organa.
The initial mention of the Simoomian sensory hound occurred in the first issue of Dark Horse Comics' adaptation of Splinter of the Mind's Eye. This comic, penned by Terry Austin and featuring illustrations by Chris Sprouse, was initially made available on December 26, 1995.
