Simon Greyshade

In 22 BBY, just prior to the start of the Clone Wars, Simon Greyshade, a man of considerable wealth, served as the senator representing the Vorzyd sector within the Senate of the Galactic Republic. Greyshade possessed a uniquely customized luxury airspeeder hot rod, the XJ-6 airspeeder. This vehicle was built from a Narglatch AirTech kit, and further enhanced by Greyshade with a pair of turbojet engines. These engines were originally created to operate in groups of fifty on the massive bank-courier repulsor trucks belonging to Aargau. Anakin Skywalker, a Jedi Padawan, took control of this airspeeder in order to chase Zam Wesell, a Clawdite bounty hunter who had previously attempted, but failed, to assassinate Senator Padmé Amidala of Naboo. Because the speeder was eventually recovered and returned to its parking space, Greyshade could not file charges for its "theft".

Behind the scenes

The first appearance of Simon Greyshade was in Star Wars (1977) 18, a comic book from 1978 published by Marvel Comics as part of Star Wars Legends. The reference book Star Wars: Attack of the Clones Incredible Cross-Sections, a Star Wars Legends publication, established him as the owner of the airspeeder that Anakin Skywalker commandeered in Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones. This ownership was then brought into the new canon, initially with an implied reference in Ultimate Star Wars, and later with a direct mention by name in the 2016 revision of Star Wars: Complete Locations.
