Silica tree

KyloRen-Exegol While making his way toward the Sith Citadel, Kylo Ren toppled a silica tree located on the surface of Exegol. The silica tree was a unique geological feature present on the planet of Exegol, situated within the Unknown Regions. These formations arose from the planet's frequent lightning strikes, which transformed the surface grit and sand into branching, tumor-shaped structures composed of glass. The name of the formation is the same as the material silica.

In the year 35 ABY, Kylo Ren, the Supreme Leader of the First Order, journeyed to Exegol to investigate a strange broadcast originating from the supposedly-deceased Galactic Emperor, Palpatine. After landing his TIE whisper starfighter on the planet's terrain, Ren proceeded on foot towards the Sith Citadel located on Exegol. During his walk, Ren accidentally kicked over a small silica tree with his boot. This incident caused him to briefly feel concerned about his fighter being exposed to lightning strikes and to realize he needed to find shelter quickly.

Production Notes

A silica tree makes an appearance in the 2020 adult novelization by Rae Carson of the 2019 film Star Wars: Episode IX The Rise of Skywalker from the sequel trilogy. In reality, fulgurite is a naturally occurring, mineral-like structure created when lightning strikes sand containing silica, fusing it into glass.
