Iol is a planet and Shirkel is a city in the Unknown Regions that Tangan Industries held dominion over. Built in 50 BBY, Shirkel was the most recently established city on Iol. Its population was less than that of other Iol cities, with a significant portion of its inhabitants being miners employed at adjacent mines. While Tangan Industries designated the Twi'lek Anoon'olan as the administrator of Shirkel, the citizens of the city largely gave their loyalty to Kai Lunn, who headed the Miners' Union.
