The Shadow Egg, so designated immediately by Lord Shadowspawn upon its genesis, came into being through his actions. It remained suspended in the location previously occupied by the Shadow Throne, buoyed by the very repulsorlifts that had formerly sustained the throne. Its interior was a realm of complete darkness, envisioned by Shadowspawn as his personal chrysalis. The egg ultimately disintegrated when Luke Skywalker formed an alliance with the Melters.
