The Sareeta were a race of sentient humanoids, a distinct species. Characterized by their dark, unblinking eyes and pink-toned skin, they originated from the planet Sareet in the Outer Rim. Before making contact with the larger galactic community, the Sareeta had achieved technological advancements comparable to the atomic age. Subsequently, Sareeta leaders encouraged their people to explore the galaxy, hoping they would eventually use their experiences to improve Sareet. However, one Sareeta, named Sassan Sareeta, chose a different path, becoming a smuggler. After boldly breaking through a blockade in the Lazerian system, Sassan was recruited by the criminal organization Syndicate One.
As a sentient species, the Sareeta possessed a generally humanoid form. They were bipedal, standing on two legs, and had two arms that ended in hands with five fingers, including an opposable thumb. Sareeta heads featured rounded craniums, but their faces appeared angular due to prominent jowls marked with three dark spots. A small, dark, nose-like indentation sat in the middle of their face, above their dark, lidless eyes. Their skin was mottled and displayed pink pigmentation.
The Sareeta evolved on the planet Sareet, which is situated within the Stensen sector of the Outer Rim Territories. Their society developed in isolation until they reached the atomic age. Sometime between 1000 and 25 BBY, they encountered the broader galactic society. In response, the Sareeta leadership urged their younger generations to venture beyond their homeworld and explore the galaxy before returning to contribute to their planet's advancement. However, not all young Sareeta embraced this responsibility. One such individual was Sassan, later known as "Sassan Sareeta" or "Sassan the Sareeta." He lacked interest in societal development, instead seeking free passage on less-than-reputable freight vessels. Sassan developed a fondness for Corellian-designed YT-1300 light freighters, eventually constructing his own from salvaged parts of three different starships.
Sassan transported cargo to dangerous locations aboard his freighter, the Moondrake. While smuggling goods through the Harrin Trade Corridor to the Lazerian system, Sassan encountered an Imperial picket line of TIE starfighters. Rather than retreating, Sassan diverted all power to his forward deflector shields and plowed through several starfighters. This act earned Sassan a reputation as a blockade runner, drawing the attention of Saujutta-Ok-Topii, the leader of the criminal syndicate Syndicate One. Sassan eventually rose to a position within the organization, overseeing its transport operations and calculating jump routes for their gun-running activities.
By the year 25 ABY, the region surrounding the Sareeta homeworld had an average population density of less than one million inhabitants per inhabited planet. By 137 ABY, their homeworld was under the control of Darth Krayt's Galactic Empire.
The Sareeta were conceived by Christopher M. Olson for the article "The Yard of Opportunity," featured in Star Wars Adventure Journal 8, published by West End Games in 1995. Erik K. Olsen created an illustration of Sassan the Sareeta, depicting the mercenary with a loose flap around his neck. The illustration leaves it ambiguous whether this is a part of his uniform or a dewlap. The Ultimate Alien Anthology, released by Wizards of the Coast in 2003, mistakenly identified "Sassan Sareeta" as an example name for a Sullustan, despite the Sullustan species originating from the Sullust system.
