The Sanction, an Imperial-class Star Destroyer, saw action during the Galactic Civil War as part of the Galactic Empire's navy. This Star Destroyer played a role in the defense of the Trenchenovu shipyards against a predicted assault by a Rebel Alliance squadron. A TIE fighter squadron from the Empire's 204th Imperial Fighter Wing was temporarily assigned to the Sanction. After the 204th's TIEs surprised the Alliance squadron, the Sanction emerged from hyperspace to block the rebels' retreat, resulting in the near-total destruction of the enemy squadron.
The Imperial-class Star Destroyer known as the Sanction was equipped with hyperdrive capabilities.
The Sanction, a Star Destroyer, operated within the Galactic Empire's navy throughout the Galactic Civil War. Approximately seven months prior to the Battle of Endor in 4 ABY, Imperial forces became aware of an impending attack on the Trenchenovu shipyards by a Rebel Alliance squadron of BTL-A4 Y-wing assault starfighter/bombers. To ensnare the rebels, the Empire's 204th Imperial Fighter Wing provided the Sanction with a squadron of twelve TIE fighters for the defense of Trenchenovu. Although the Imperial I-class Star Destroyer Pursuer, the 204th's flagship, was initially slated to participate, it was redirected to address another emergency.
When the attack by the rebels commenced, the 204th's TIEs ambushed the rebel Y-wings, forcing the bombers to retreat from the shipyards. Subsequently, the Sanction received orders to jump through hyperspace to the Trenchenovu shipyards. The Star Destroyer's arrival compelled the rebel squadron to attempt an escape through the shipyards. The 204th's TIE fighters successfully destroyed all but one of the Y-wings, piloted by the squadron's leader, Nath Tensent, who managed to escape. Months later, Tensent recounted the battle, including the Sanction's arrival, to Yrica Quell, a pilot serving in the New Republic's intelligence division.
Alexander Freed mentioned the Sanction in his 2019 novel, Alphabet Squadron.
