Sage Groves, an American editor, was born on November 9, 2001. As part of Star Wars: The High Republic's Phase III, she served as an editor for Escape from Valo, the 2024 junior novel authored by Daniel José Older and Alyssa Wong. The droid 5A-G3, who first appeared in Older's 2023 comic-book series Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures, is modeled after Groves.
Born on November 9, 2001, Sage Groves is an American editor. Serving as both literary assistant and editor, Groves contributed to Escape from Valo, a junior novel by Daniel José Older and Alyssa Wong released on January 30, 2024 as part of the Star Wars: The High Republic initiative's Phase III; she considered this novel one of the best parts of her 2023. While acknowledged for her assistance upon the book's release, Groves was not formally credited as editor. Older brought Groves to the press premiere of the Disney+ live-action television series The Acolyte alongside Wong on May 23, 2024. The premiere, along with her acknowledgement in Escape from Valo, were among Groves' favorite Star Wars-related moments of 2024.
Groves served as the inspiration for the droid 5A-G3, who was created for Older's 2023 comic-book series Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures, a component of The High Republic's Phase III. The name 5A-G3 represents a leet speak version of the editor's name. Groves verified that the droid's pronouns are "she/they," intended for interchangeable use, mirroring her own pronouns. Harvey Tolibao, the series' artist, congratulated the editor on the debut of the droid after she expressed excitement about her character's introduction in the first issue of the comic, which Dark Horse Comics published on December 6, 2023.
Tolibao's design for 5A-G3 was inspired by an espresso coffee bean grinder. Groves found the artist's inspiration for the droid's depiction amusing when she discussed the design with him, as he was unaware that she had worked as a barista when she first began communicating with Older. Upon 5A-G3's initial appearance, the editor displayed a copy of the first issue of The High Republic Adventures featuring custom artwork of the droid doodled on a plastic cover. Groves has also expressed her desire for 5A-G3 to appear in future Star Wars projects.
