In 1987, West End Games released a roleplaying game adventure titled Rings of Bright Water. It was part of the original Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game. The story revolves around a group of Alliance advisors who are tasked with helping the indigenous Sessehshellah people of Shaymore fight against the occupying Imperial forces.
Shaymore, a planet, is under the control of Imperial forces who are focused on extracting the world's supply of hydrocarbons. The Sessehshellah, native to the planet, seek assistance from the Alliance, requesting weapons and support to resist the invasion. Despite the Sessehshellah's lack of advanced technology, the Alliance acknowledges their determination to fight, regardless of external aid. Consequently, an Alliance team is dispatched to deliver laser weaponry and advisors to train the natives in effective resistance strategies.
The team, using the vessel Dorion Discus for transport, makes contact with the Sessehshellah. Initially, cultural differences create friction, as the Sessehshellah interpret the Alliance's cautious and strategic approach as a sign of timidity, misconstruing it as a lack of bravery. The Sessehshellah launch a rash assault on an Imperial patrol, leading to a retaliatory raid that devastates a Sesseh' village. Following this event, the Sessehshellah begin to value the Alliance's emphasis on covert and subtle combat methods. Simultaneously, the Alliance team gains respect for the natives' deep understanding of their environment and their unique skills.
The Alliance and Sessehshellah collaborate to sabotage an Imperial power station, successfully acquiring a comm unit scrambler in the process. They also discover the vulnerability of the Imperial's hydrocarbon operation, learning that production must increase tenfold within a year to avoid abandonment. Furthermore, reserves are dwindling, making the hydrocarbons stored at the Imperial hydrocarbon refinery on the planet a vital component of the Empire's resources.
After devising a suitable strategy, the Alliance and Sessehshellah carry out an act of sabotage against the Imperial hydrocarbon refinery. The destruction of the facility forces the operation to cease, resulting in the Imperial commander being relieved of duty in disgrace.
