Backup Rendezvous Point Gamma-Nine was a location in space designated for the Alliance to Restore the Republic's forces to come together again. This occurred in 3 ABY during the Galactic Civil War, after the Galactic Empire launched a devastating attack against Echo Base on the planet Hoth, which served as the Rebellion's operational headquarters.
Following the Millennium Falcon's escape from Cloud City, the starship linked up with the Alliance's Fourth Division. This division had assembled at the rendezvous point after narrowly avoiding destruction in an Imperial attack at Rendezvous Point Delta-Three. At that time, Lando Calrissian considered the assembled fleet to potentially be the remaining elements of the Alliance Fleet. Subsequently, [Luke Skywalker](/article/luke_skywalker] received a robotic one to replace his lost hand aboard the EF76 Nebulon-B escort frigate Redemption while at the rendezvous point.
Present at the rendezvous point were numerous T-65B X-wing starfighters, BTL Y-wing starfighters, and GR-75 medium transports, alongside two EF76 Nebulon-B escort frigates, including the Redemption, the Millennium Falcon, and a minimum of three CR90 corvettes. Several additional starships were also in attendance.
The rendezvous point initially appeared in Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back, a 1980 film serving as the second entry in the Star Wars original trilogy. The specific location was not identified within canon until the 2020 release of Star Wars (2020) 1, which officially named it "Backup Rendezvous Point Gamma-Nine." However, in Star Wars Legends continuity, the rendezvous point was identified and given the codename "Haven" back in 1996. In the Star Wars Galaxy of Adventures short "Clash on Cloud City," the rebel vessels depicted at the rendezvous point are shown departing into hyperspace.
