The Red Flame was a symbolic image employed in the military of the Chiss. This symbol, taking the form of red piping on their military attire, signified the Red Flame, a concept representing the highest level of perfection among their people, embodying the qualities of bravery, intelligence, and self-control.
During the events of the Battle of Rhigar which took place in 19 ABY, Shawnkyr Nuruodo, holding the rank of First Lieutenant within the Syndic Mitth'raw'nuruodo training academy, displayed this emblem on her flight suit, as did every other Chiss cadets. Jagged Fel, a Human who was a Lieutenant, instead wore blue piping, a detail that Nuruodo took note of. During a conversation they had within the mechanics bay, Fel observed the contrast between the red piping worn by Shawnkyr and his own blue piping, a constant reminder that he wasn't Chiss.
During the Yuuzhan Vong War, every member of the Vanguard Squadron displayed this symbol on their respective uniforms.
